Empowering Pennsylvania’s Future Legal Professionals at Penn State Berks

At Kitay Law Offices, our mission extends beyond the courtroom. For over 25 years, we have been committed to advocating for our clients and strengthening our communities across Pennsylvania. A core part of this commitment is investing in the next generation of legal professionals. We believe that empowering students with practical knowledge and career insights is essential for the future of the legal field. By building bridges between education and real-world legal practice, we help cultivate talented, passionate individuals who will one day lead our industry.

This dedication to mentorship and development is why we actively partner with educational institutions. Our goal is to provide aspiring lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants with the tools they need to succeed. Through workshops, internships, and direct engagement, we aim to demystify the path to a legal career and inspire students to pursue their ambitions with confidence.

Connecting with Students at Penn State Berks

On November 17, 2025, our Recruiter & Professional Development Specialist, Hope Migliaccio, visited the Criminal Justice Department at Penn State Berks. The session was designed to connect directly with students, offering them a clear-eyed view of what it takes to build a successful career in today’s competitive legal landscape.

Hope, who brings a rich background in education and leadership to her role, shared invaluable advice drawn from her extensive experience. Before joining Kitay Law Offices, she spent over three decades in the education sector, including 15 years as a Middle School Principal. This unique perspective allows her to effectively identify and nurture talent, making her a powerful resource for students embarking on their professional journeys.

The visit was more than just a presentation; it was an interactive dialogue aimed at preparing students for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Career Insights for Aspiring Legal Professionals

During the session at Penn State Berks, Hope covered several critical topics to help students navigate the transition from university to the workplace. The discussion provided practical strategies for standing out and achieving career goals.

Crafting a Winning Resume

Your resume is often the first impression you make on a potential employer. Hope emphasized the importance of creating a document that not only lists your experiences but also tells a compelling story about your skills and potential. Key tips included tailoring your resume for each specific job application, using action verbs to describe accomplishments, and highlighting relevant coursework or projects that demonstrate practical abilities. A well-crafted resume can be the key that unlocks the door to your first interview.

The Growing Role of AI in Recruitment

Technology is rapidly changing the hiring process. Hope explained how many firms now use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to screen applications, making it crucial for candidates to understand how these systems work. She offered advice on optimizing resumes with relevant keywords to pass through AI filters and discussed how AI is being used to assess candidate suitability. Understanding this technology gives students a significant advantage in their job search.

Strategies for Interview Success

An interview is your chance to shine. Hope shared proven strategies for success, covering everything from preparation to presentation. She stressed the importance of researching the firm, understanding its values, and preparing thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer. Practical tips on professional attire, body language, and how to articulate career aspirations clearly were also discussed. Making a lasting, positive impression during an interview is a skill that can be learned and honed.

Maximizing Your Internship Experience

An internship is not just a temporary position; it is a vital stepping stone for your career. Hope provided guidance on how to turn an internship into a long-term opportunity. This includes being proactive, seeking out meaningful work, building relationships with colleagues, and treating every task as a chance to learn and grow. A successful internship can lead to a full-time job offer and provides invaluable experience that will benefit you for years to come.

Building Pathways to Success

Our partnerships with institutions like Penn State Berks are central to our mission. By connecting with students, we aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical demands of the legal profession. These collaborations create clear pathways for talented individuals to enter the field, equipped with the confidence and skills needed to thrive.
